I launched Peace Diaries in 2001, shortly after 9/11, as a global online space for young people in New York City and around the world to process events that lead to violence and to envision a more just way forward. We printed their posts in bound volumes and shipped them across the globe.
Now, more than ever, we need to listen to young people as they make sense of the world they are inheriting. Peace Diaries gave them space to reflect, connect across borders, and imagine alternatives to violence, hate, and division.
The first volume, published in 2002, features artwork and writing from students worldwide. It includes a moving introduction by Arun Gandhi, who shares how his grandfather, Mahatma Gandhi, taught him to transform anger into nonviolent action.
As we face new waves of conflict and uncertainty, Peace Diaries reminds us that youth voices are not just valuable—they are essential to building a more just, compassionate future.
